A new era; web 2 and web 3 differences.

Ever thought of being in a digital city? Well, the internet of today is breaking boundaries.

As Bill Gates said: "the internet is becoming the town square for the global village of tomorrow".
Web 1.0 was more like a directory of static pages where users had "read- only" access.
For the past 15 years we've been operating the internet with web 2.0 which is community driven and focused on a content distribution process (sharing of photos, videos, audio). Sending information through sites, web applications, mobile apps and an interactive advertising approach.

Web 3.0 structures data in a way that is readable by both machines and humans. It runs on a decentralized network with advanced analytics and gives privacy and security to users through encryption and use of Distributed ledger technologies.

Web 2.0 is built on technologies such as Ajax and JavaScript, while Web 3.0 is built on Artificial intelligence and decentralized technologies.
The applications used in web 2.0 are web apps, sites and mobile apps.
In the web3.0 space, applications used are smart apps run by Artificial Intelligence which are decentralized.

Web 3.0 gives users a feeling of being safe anywhere online as they control their data, without fear of interference by third parties.
Information in the web3.0 is universal.

Another difference in web 2 and web 3 is the advent of Blockchain technology.
This is a decentralized ledger of records that disrupts the financial industry, bringing about innovative ways to exchange money. As humans we began with the trade by barter system, which lead to fiat currencies and now we're in the era of digital currency (crypto).
Blockchain also cuts across the finance sector.

The journey began with the advent of web 1.0 which was basically about a repository of static pages, giving users the ability to access content but not make changes to it.
Web 2.0 enhanced the idea of User experience ushering in interaction with the internet through centralized companies such as: Google, Facebook. It's been the age of collecting data to serve more content and targeted advertising.

The next evolution of the internet is Web 3.0; which properly utilizes Blockchain technology and the tools of decentralization to produce DAO (Decentralized Autonomous Organizations). Blockchain also tackles issues in the banking system such as immediate financial transactions through peer to peer networks.
Enhanced security and fraud reduction through the use of cryptography standards like hash functions, private and public keys.

In web 2.0 the users are the products interacting with the content; while in web 3.0 they are the owner's and ultimate influencers of the content.
